Sustainability issues have gained considerably in importance in recent years – not least in the finance industry. This development has been, and will continue to be driven primarily by international climate protection policymakers, who succeeded in agreeing on concrete climate protection targets at the end of 2015 with the ratification of the UN Paris Agreement (COP21). According to this agreement, global warming is to be limited to well below 2ºC in the long term. This, in turn, is likely to succeed only if greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced to close to zero worldwide. The superstructure of these endeavors takes the form of Agenda 2030, which comprises a total of 17 objectives that the United Nations adopted in 2015 with the aim of ensuring global sustainable development.
