Pfandbrief Banks’ Predominant Market Position in Commercial Property Finance

The vdp member banks are by far the most predominant group of providers of commercial property finance in Germany. As at end-2010, their total lendings amounted to a total of € 305 billion. Of this total, € 155 billion was extended in Germany. Including all credit institutions operating in Germany, the Deutsche Bundesbank reports total domestic loans for non-residential properties of € 246 billion. The member banks of the vdp took a 63% share of this market.
